STUART, FL -- You and your children may be in a rush to get to school when classes resume August 24th, but Stuart Police want to remind you of the penalties for failing to obey traffic and safety laws.
Police are asking parents to allow extra time for their daily commutes, taking into account slower speeds in school zones. They're asking drivers to avoid distracting activities such as cell phone use and texting, and to remember to wear seat belts.
Students who bike to school must remember to wear bicycle helmets. Stuart Police will have a limited number of helmets to give out to children who don't have them.
The following is a list of traffic fines, as provided by Stuart Police:
Seat Belt Violations- $98.00
Child Restraint- $148.00
Speed Violations- 6-9 miles over $138.00
10-14 miles over $288.00
