STUART — Two West Palm Beach men are facing fraud charges after attempting to return merchandise they purchased earlier in the week using counterfeit money in an attempt to get real money, according to a Stuart Police Department arrest affidavit.
Police on Tuesday charged Terrience Thicklin, 27, of the 600 block of 36th Street, and Roshaw Stringer, 27, of the 800 block of 41st Street, with scheme to defraud. Stringer faces additional charges of two counts of uttering forged bills.
Police responded to the Walmart at 4001 S.E. Federal Highway, after Thicklin attempted to return items Stringer purchased Monday with a mixture of real money and nine counterfeit $20 bills, according to the affidavit.
The serial numbers on the bills the men used Tuesday matched the numbers on the fake money the duo used Monday, the affidavit states.
On Tuesday, Thicklin and Stringer were released from the Martin County Jail on $5,000 bond for Thicklin and $15,000 bond for Stringer.
