STUART, Fla. - At least one person is dead in a traffic accident on Sewall's Point in Stuart, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The car was going east over the Evans Crary, Sr. Bridge towards Hutchison Island when it reportedly hit a sign and burst into flames, FHP said. Pieces of tire rubber littered the road near the foot of the bridge, and fuel was spilled on the ground around the charred four-door silver vehicle.
The identity of the male victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The eastbound lanes of SE Ocean Avenue were blocked off tonight while traffic detectives investigated the accident. All lanes have now reopened, according to police.
