PALM CITY, Fla. - A Treasure Coast family is picking up the pieces after a rude encounter with Mother Nature.
A home in rural Palm City was hit by a lightning bolt around 8:15 Sunday night. The three people inside managed to get out safely, but it took just a few minutes for smoke to fill the entire home.
"I was upstairs and I thought maybe a plane had crashed into our house. So I ran down the stairs and my husband was coming in from the garage and he saw the blue flash and knew it was lightning," said homeowner Lynn Langley.
The fire was concentrated in the attic, but many of the family's belongings were damaged.
