PALM CITY, Fla. - A 9-year-old boy succumbed to injuries he suffered after being ejected from a vehicle that rolled over several times on Interstate 95 in Palm City Sunday afternoon, said Sgt. Mark Wysocky, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol

The child and three adults were ejected from their vehicle and critically injured, Wysocky said.

The single-vehicle accident happened around 2:25 p.m. when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a piece of furniture that had fallen from a Ford pickup truck traveling northbound on the interstate ahead of them.

The driver lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn several times, Wysocky said.

The child, whose identity has not been released, was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center Pediatric Unit, where he later died.

The three adults were taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center in critical condition. There is no word on their current condition.

The accident near Lands End Place, closed several lanes of I-95 for about an hour.
