PALM CITY, Fla. -- A man was seriously injured Saturday afternoon after being struck on I-95 while reportedly inspecting the damage to his vehicle, which had been involved in a crash a few minutes earlier.
The vehicle and pedestrian accident happened around 1:45 p.m. on I-95 near the Palm City exit, according to Martin County Fire Chief Doug Killane.
Killane said the victim’s vehicle had been involved in an accident with a tractor-trailer a few minutes earlier and he had gotten out of the vehicle when he was hit by another vehicle.
He was airlifted to Lawnwood Medical Center with potential life-threatening injuries, Killane said.
The southbound lanes of I-95 were closed for about an hour due to the accident.
The accident is under investigation.
