Man in Palm City DUI arrest tells officer his dad is an 'Autobot'

A 19-year-old man who said his dad was an "Autobot" was arrested after a deputy stopped his "woogity" car and found he smelled of booze, according to a recently released affidavit.

Michael Rexford - the self-described son of an "Autobot" - was jailed on a DUI charge after a Martin County Sheriff's deputy reported spotting his vehicle just before 5:30 a.m. Aug. 12.

The deputy noticed a Saturn Ion run a stop sign on Southwest Cornell Avenue in Palm City. The vehicle's front, passenger-side tire was torn with the remains "slapping" the wheel well.

After a "long, plastic-looking piece" dropped from the Saturn, the deputy turned on his emergency lights and the vehicle stopped.

Rexford was behind the wheel.

The deputy told the shirtless and gym short wearing Rexford, who smelled slightly of alcohol, he was traveling on a destroyed tire. Rexford said he was trying to get home and felt the Saturn get "woogity."

Rexford said his license was "expended," but the deputy determined it was valid.

Asked where he was coming from, Rexford said, "More from the Stuart area." When the deputy asked where in Stuart, Rexford said, "Uhhh, more from Jensen."

Rexford said he felt his tire blow out near the Palm City Bridge. He said his dad was an "Autobot" and could fix the vehicle.

Rexford, who is not of age to drink, said he'd imbibed "a little." A breath test showed his blood alcohol content was greater than two times the legal limit.

Rexford, of the 1700 block of Southwest Sea Holly Way in Palm City, was jailed on a DUI charge.
