JENSEN BEACH — An 18-year-old Jensen Beach High School student is facing criminal charges for bringing an unloaded handgun to school on Wednesday, according to Martin County Sheriff's Office arrest report.
A school resource deputy charged Robert Fox, of the 3500 block of Northeast Adriatic Lane, with possession of a firearm on school grounds and misdemeanor marijuana possession under 20 grams and resisting arrest without violence.
About 9 a.m. Wednesday, a school security guard reported Fox leaving school campus. The deputy caught up with Fox in the parking lot of the Barnes & Noble bookstore where he told him to go back to school. When Fox wouldn't, the deputy arrested him and found in the teen's right front pocket a Raven chrome .25 semi-auto handgun and 7 grams of marijuana wrapped in a twenty dollar bill, the report states.
Fox said he found the gun in Martin Luther King Jr. Park in East Stuart and took it to school for protection because his house recently had been burglarized, the report states.
Fox has been released on $3,500 bond.
