It’s a cleanup for a cause-- more than 350 volunteers pitched in Saturday morning at Jensen Beach to do their part in the “Community Cleanup for Schools.”
Event organizers say this is a first-time, grass-roots event where local supporters are coming together to clean the city, plus the beach areas on Hutchison Island.
The “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Martin County. Eight non-profits teamed up to plan the community clean-up.
Doug Hancken said organizers wanted to bring the public out, to spark more active involvement in the community, and to help out students in need.
“Boys and Girls Club last year did not have enough school supplies to give to all the needy kids of Martin County, and by doing this, we will hopefully raise enough school supplies for all the kids for the upcoming school year and the year after,” said Hancken.
