'Hickeys' defense proves tricky in Jensen Beach fight, cops say

JENSEN BEACH, Fla. -- A woman said her male friend "(female dog) slapped" her, though the male friend denied striking her.

Instead, he said marks on the woman's neck stemmed from "hickeys" he gave her.

In the end, Harold Lee Marlowe, 46, who smelled strongly of booze, was jailed on a misdemeanor battery charge following the Sept. 3 incidents involving the 44-year-old woman, who also smelled strongly of booze, according to recently released Martin County Sheriff's Office records.

Sheriff's deputies about 10 p.m. went to a gas station on Northwest Federal Highway in Jensen Beach after a report of a drunk person.

Dispatchers indicated a store clerk said a woman who appeared intoxicated told him to call authorities because a man she was with choked her.

The 44-year-old woman told deputies that her friend Marlowe "(female dog) slapped" her in the neck and face several times. She said Marlowe, who has a picture of Jesus on his chest, didn't choke her.

The sheriff's records did not explain "(female dog) slap."

However, "(female dog) slap" is defined on urbandictionary.com as, "To open handedley slap someone. Denote disrespect for the person being (female dog) slapped as they are not worthy of a man sized punch. Suggests the slap was met with little resistance and much whining."

Marlowe, meanwhile, denied striking the woman. He said the marks on her neck were from "hickeys" -- reddish, purplish areas left by passionate kisses -- he'd given her.

Marlowe, of Hazard, KY, and the woman said they haven't dated and are just friends.

Marlowe said he didn't know how she got the marks on her face.
