JENSEN BEACH, Fla. - A woman who returned a man's lost wallet late at night wasn't as helpful as it seemed, according to arrest reports.

The wallet was missing $540 in cash that the returner and another clerk at the Rio Market now are accused to taking after the wallet was accidentally left on the store's counter on Thursday.

Charged with grand theft are Margaret Wollard, 30, of Stuart, and Adelina Almodovar, 29, of Jensen Beach. Deputies made the arrests after reviewing the store's surveillance camera recordings.

The recordings show the victim walking out after leaving his wallet on a counter. The tapes then allegedly shows the two women handling the wallet and one bent down behind the counter. Deputies quoted Almondovar as saying they split the money but Almodovar felt bad about the man losing other things in the wallet so she took it to him at his home.

After the arrests, the two women were jailed, each under $2,500 in bonds.
