MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. - A necropsy is planned for a dead, beached pygmy sperm whale that was discovered in Martin County Thursday morning

It was found on Tiger Shores Beach, just north of Stuart Beach.

The whale measured nine feet in length. There was evidence of a shark bite on the whale's body.

The Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission along with the Martin County Sheriff’s office responded to the scene.

The whale was photographed and vital statistics were recorded. The experts were amazed at how much damage a shark did to the whale.

Florida Oceanographic delivered the whale to Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. Scientists there will study the whale and determine the cause of death.
