JENSEN BEACH, Fla. -- An accused panty pilferer and a reported purloiner of pants proved no match for a Macy's agent and a Martin County Sheriff's deputy, according to recently released records.
The case that sent the apparent thong thief and the blue jean bandit to the big house went down about 4:40 p.m. Jan. 27 at a Macy's in the Treasure Coast Square mall in Jensen Beach.
A loss prevention agent said he spied Jahaneil Jamelia Thompson, 19, and 23-year-old Kristina Marie Arnold enter the "intimate apparel section.
Thompson, the loss prevention agent said, selected nine pairs of panties before she and Arnold headed to the juniors area where Arnold got three pairs of jeans.
They went in a fitting room. Thompson came out sans the undies, and Arnold left without one pair of jeans. The women walked out of the store without paying.
Nine pairs of panties valued at $74.50 and a $24.50 pair of jeans turned up in Thompson's and Arnold's purses, respectively.
The records didn't contain an inventory of the recovered underthings, though a photo of the boosted bloomers portrays a potpourri of skimpy skivvies.
The jeans were described as "New York Denim Blue Jeans," a report states.
Thompson, of the 700 block of Northwest Bristol Street in Port St. Lucie, and Arnold, of the 5500 block of Northwest East Torino Parkway in Port St. Lucie, each were arrested on a misdemeanor retail theft charge.
The underwear and jeans were returned to Macy's.
