Motorcycle accident in Hobe Sound closes SE Dixie Highway

HOBE SOUND, Fla. - A man was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center Monday afternoon after being injured in a motorcycle-vehicle accident in the 1500 block of SE Dixie Highway in Hobe Sound, according to Chief Doug Killane, spokesman for Martin County Fire Rescue.

The motorcyclist was traveling west on SE Dixie Highway when he crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane while negotiating around a curve in the roadway, said Lt. Tim Frith, spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol. The motorcycle then struck a vehicle in the east lane, he said.

The motorcycle driver was transported to the hospital with serious injuries, Killane said.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. at 1503 SE Dixie Highway, near the intersection with Federal Highway North.

All northbound and southbound lanes of SE Dixie Highway were closed for about two hours.
