HOBE SOUND, Fla. — The occupants of one trailer home that was destroyed and another that as damaged following a Tuesday fire are reportedly taking shelter with family members, while the cause of the blaze hasn't been determined, a Martin County Fire Rescue spokesman said Wednesday.

One of the homes was occupied by a woman and the other by a couple, fire rescue Bureau Chief Daniel Harshburger said Wednesday.

"They didn’t need any Red Cross assistance because they had family that was going to take them in," Harshburger said.

He said a cause has not been determined. There were no injuries.

The Tuesday fire started in a Florida room before spreading to the two homes, according to fire rescue officials.

About 4:30 p.m., firefighters received a call about a house fire in the 7000 block of Southeast Birchwood Lane in the Pinelake Gardens and Estates neighborhood south of U.S. 1 and Cove Road, Harshburger said.

The fire started in a sitting room next to a carport of a home before spreading to the rest of the home. The radiant heat from that fire ignited a neighboring house to the north, Harshburger said.

"With fires of that proximity, obviously we want to make sure the fire doesn't spread to other structures," he said.

It took firefighters 45 minutes to extinguish the two blazes.

The homeowner of one of the mobile homes reported the fire, he said.

The fire left the home where the fire started inhabitable and the second home sustained smoke and water damage, Harshburger said.
