HOBE SOUND — A 56-year-old Hobe Village man Thursday denied charges he tried to break into a Martin County ambulance and ran away when a deputy tried to question him.
Michael Anthony Canovai of the 11400 block of Southeast Federal Highway said he believes sheriff’s deputies mistakenly arrested him on charges of burglary of an authorized emergency vehicle and resisting arrest without violence early Sunday morning. He was released on $10,500 bond.
Canovai said he left his home to see why the ambulance, a fire engine and two patrol cars were in front of a neighbors house, but never touched the ambulance.
Canovai said he never heard a deputy instruct him to stop as he was walking back into his house.
The deputy and a sergeant subsequently arrested him.
