STUART, Fla. - It was a somber homecoming for an American hero Wedensday.
Hundreds turned out at Stuart's Witham Field to witness the return of Sgt. Justin Johnson.
The 25-year-old Hobe Sound native was killed last month in an attack at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan.
Johnson was engaged to be married and had a 4 year-old son.
While there were plenty of video cameras trained on the plane carrying Sgt. Johnson's body as it was given a water cannon salute, one camera was a little closer than others.
Alfred Miller was shooting the video. He is Sgt. Johnson's cousin.
"It was very emotional. Definitely like to thank the public and the military and law enforcement for coming out and being a part of honoring my cousin," said Miller.
Miller took video of Congressman Patrick Murphy giving Johnson's mother a proclamation and a flag that flew over the nation's capitol.
A short time later, as Sgt. Johnson's flag-draped casket was lowered from the plane, you could hear the cries from the family.
Some had to be taken inside as they were overcome with emotion.
"Definitely have to stay strong for the family. Try to offer my support to the ones that definitely need that," said Miller.
Miller said what's important is to preserve these pictures, so Johnson's son will have an understanding and an appreciation, for the sacrifices his dad made, and know that a community came out in support.
Florida Governor Rick Scott released a memorandum today ordering that all national and state flags be flown at half staff at the Martin County Courthouse and at the State Capitol in Tallahassee on Saturday.
Johnson's funeral is Saturday morning. He will be buried west of Lake Worth at the South Florida National Cemetery.
