STUART, Fla. - One man dies after a car crash in south Stuart Friday night, according to Lieutenant Tim Frith with Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Federal Highway and Monroe Street in Stuart around 10:30 Friday night, according Chief Doug Killane with Martin County Fire Rescue.

Florida Highway Patrol said Paul Hagman, 63, turned left from Monroe Street onto US-1 into oncoming traffic. Hagman was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of US-1 and collided head-on with the driver of the second vehicle, George L. Daughtrey, 52.

Hagman and Daughtrey were both transported to Martin Memorial South hospital. Hagman was later pronounced dead.

Both men were from Hobe Sound.
