MARTIN COUNTY, Fla. - She went for an afternoon stroll on the sand.   By the time the woman returned to her car, two men were using her credit card at the Target store in Jensen Beach.

Martin County Sheriff's investigators say there have been a dozen smash and grab robberies in beach parking lots over the last month and a half.

St. Lucie County investigators worked four in the last week and a half.

The summer brings out the crowds at local beaches, and the criminals know it.

"Typically, when people go to the beach, specifically females, they go to the beach, they leave their purse in the car, they're over the dune line where the car is out of view," says St. Lucie County Sheriff's Sgt. Adam Goodner.  "The criminal walks by, sees the purse in the backseat, on the back floorboard and smashes the window and in 10 seconds, they're out of there."

Detectives say it's not enough to lock it up.  Beachgoers should hide all their valuables or better yet, leave them at home.

If you have any information on the burglaries, call Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at (800) 273-TIPS.
