BATHTUB BEACH, Fla. - Rough surf and beach erosion have forced authorities to remove the lifeguard stand from Bathtub Beach and leave the beach unguarded, according to Dan Wouters, spokesman for Martin County Fire Rescue.
Lifeguards were removed around noon on Saturday. They will not be back on the beach until conditions improve, Wouters said.
“Surf is pretty strong; it has been for a couple of days,” Wouters said
He said that Bathtub Beach will remain open but that beachgoers should be careful when swimming in a beach that is not guarded.
When the beach is not guarded, beachgoers must call 9-1-1 in an emergency
