INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A 25-year-old Wabasso man has been charged with a Saturday afternoon knife point kidnapping and robbery of a woman who escaped after being driven to a supermarket cash machine for money.

Norie Lavincent Davis, of the 8300 block of 64th Avenue, was arrested by sheriff's deputies at a Wabasso pool hall about two hours later. He was being held in the Indian River County jail Sunday on $140,000 bond. In addition to robbery and kidnapping, he also is charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, grand theft, tampering with evidence and introduction on contraband into the jail.

According to the arrest report, the woman was waiting in her car for a friend in the 8200 block of 63rd Court when Davis approached her with a knife. He drove the victim in her car to an automated teller machine at the Publix store in the 9600 block of U.S. 1 and demanded she withdraw $80.

The woman told deputies that Davis waited in the car and she yelled for help as soon as she got out of his range. At that point, she said, Davis fled in her car.

The vehicle was located a short time later, behind an apparently empty house at the dead end of 63rd Avenue.

A deputy checking Lee's Pool Hall in the 6300 block of 85th Street reported that Davis tried to flee through the back door and was arrested.

According to the report, deputies found a small bag of what appeared to be crack cocaine in the front left pocket of the pants Davis was wearing. The bag was placed on top of a patrol car and a handcuffed Davis grabbed it with his mouth in an unsuccessful attempt to swallow it, the report states.

Deputies also reported finding 2.7 grams of marijuana on Davis when they processed him into jail.
