VERO BEACH, Fla. - Indian River County Sheriff's detectives found an alligator that was illegally kept in a hot tub while serving a search warrant in a Vero Beach home, the sheriff's department said.
The alligator was discovered on Tuesday while detectives served a drug-related search warrant at home located at 4386 4th Street in Vero Beach.
Tony Wells, who lives at the residence, was asked about the alligator and he said it was already in the home when he moved in, according to deputies.
He also told detectives the alligator was kept there for over a year. When asked what he fed the alligator he said, "chicken, just chicken," according to an arrest affidavit.
Wells, 34, was arrested for illegal possession of an alligator. Crystal Williams, 26, was arrested for possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence charges.
