VERO BEACH — No one was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident that left one of them on its roof Monday, Vero Beach police said.

Officers said the Toyota Pathfinder driver was traveling south on U.S. 1 and ran the stoplight at 23rd Street about 1:30 p.m. The Toyota clipped the driver's side corner of an eastbound Mercury before flipping onto its roof and landing on the southbound side of 23rd, police said.

"I saw him going airborne," said Vero Beach resident Richard Dutton, 91, who was operating the Mercury. "It happened so fast, I'm not sure where he was coming from."

Dutton was not injured in the crash. The Toyota driver, whose name was not immediately released, was being treated at Indian River Medical Center, police said.

The Pathfinder was removed from the scene about 2 p.m. The crash remained under investigation.
