VERO BEACH, Fla. - An unidentified pedestrian who was either walking or standing in the westbound lane of 49th Street Friday night was hit by two different vehicles, the first of which fled the scene.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported that the person had been left laying on westbound 49th Street for an unknown amount of time before being struck again by a westbound 2009 Toyota Corolla. Its driver, 48-year-old Robina Saeed of Vero Beach, was unable to avoid driving the car over the person, troopers reported. Saeed turned the car around and stopped.
Troopers said the make and model of the first car to strike the victim and its driver's identity were unknown.
There was no identification on the dead pedestrian and the next of kin had not been notified, troopers reported Saturday.
The incident remains under investigation.
