VERO BEACH, Fla. -- A year after 21-year-old Douglas Frazier Jr.'s decomposing body was found behind an Indian River County home, a jury found a teenager guilty of conspiracy to have Frazier shot and killed, the State Attorney's Office said.
"We feel the verdict was just and the jury used common sense when they heard the evidence," Assistant State Attorney Bill Long said Monday.
Friday's verdict against Herbert Andre White-Jordan, 16, of the 4300 block of 26th Avenue, Vero Beach, completed the five-day trial, Long said. White-Jordan will be sentenced in late January. His co-conspirator, Eddie Gibson, was charged with first-degree murder, but no date has been set for his trial, Long said.
Gibson, 22, and Frazier are cousins, detectives said.
The Indian River County Sheriff's Office said Frazier was shot in the head and killed, likely on Nov. 11, 2011, after he was lured by Gibson to the backyard of an empty, foreclosed home in the 4800 block of 61st Court, Vero Beach. Decomposition separated Frazier's head from his body by the time a lawn maintenance crew found him one month later, the Sheriff's Office said.
Before the shooting, a witness told detectives he and Frazier broke into Gibson's home and stole an Xbox, some games and DVDs. Gibson concluded Frasier committed the burglary and planned to kill him, according to witnesses cited in reports.
Gibson plotted the shooting with White-Jordan, but carried out the homicide on his own, the Sheriff's Office said. Gibson convinced Frazier that he wanted to team up to commit a burglary, detectives said.
