VERO BEACH, Fla. - UPDATE: After this story aired on NewsChannel 5 and was published on wptv.com, the cemetery grounds were cleaned and groomed. The grass was cut and trash picked up.

========================

For 6 months Michael Reynolds has been looking for help in cleaning up the Winter Beach Cemetery where half of his family members are buried.

"It shouldn't be like this, this is a disgrace to the dead," says Reynolds.

Tall weeds block some of the plots and instead of flowers there is trash. Jeff Owens says he too is disappointed in the condition of the cemetery and says, like Reynolds, he was told to take care of it himself.

"It's sad to come out here and see the state of the cemetery," says Owens.

Paint cans, broken flower pots, dead flowers and overgrown trees are just some of the problems.

"You've got plots that have bottles and stuff all over the place, you can't  even tell who's in them."

Both men say something needs to be done immediately. A call was made to the cemetery but the call was not returned.

"The cemetery is a disgrace someone needs to hold responsibility and clean it up," Owens said.
