VERO BEACH, Fla. - Police released the identity of the man who went missing while swimming off the coast of Vero Beach around 6 p.m. on Friday.
According to Chief David Currey with the Vero Beach Police Department, the missing swimmer is Christopher Milfort, 22, from Hawaii.
Currey says Milfort's wife may have been with him in the water at the time of the incident. She started to swim back when she heard Milfort call for help, says Currey.
The Coast Guard searched until dark Friday night and resumed the search at 6 a.m. Saturday.
Rescue teams and lifeguards are walking north and south on beach, looking for any signs of Milfort.
There are no additional details available at this time.
