VERO BEACH — Detectives took a suspected bank robber into custody Friday after a friend of the man recognized him in surveillance photos released from Thursday's crime, according to an affidavit.
William Maxwell, 59, of the 4600 block of 50th Avenue, Vero Beach, was charged with robbery with a weapon, grand theft, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was being held at the Indian River County Jail in lieu of $110,000 bail.
Vero Beach police said Maxwell robbed Florida Community Bank in the 4000 block of 20th Street shortly before noon Thursday.
