John Kocka, 'critical' after motorcycle crash in Sebastian

SEBASTIAN, Fla. -

— A 53-year-old Sebastian man who was flown to an area trauma center after a Saturday afternoon crash at U.S. 1 and County Road 512 was in critical but stable condition Sunday at a Melbourne trauma center, Sebastian police report.

Officers said John Kocka was riding a motorcycle southbound on U.S. 1 about 4:30 p.m. when it veered to the right and struck a concrete median. Witnesses said Kocka, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike by the impact.

He was first taken to Sebastian River Medical Center, then flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.
