Raw TV to recount Rondell Reed and Leviticus Taylor Indian River County Jail escape

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. -- A British film crew this week will retrace the steps of two inmates who escaped from the Indian River County Jail late last year.

Raw TV will recount the tale of Rondell Reed and Leviticus Taylor, two men — both eventually convicted of murder — who climbed and dug their way to freedom on Oct. 26, the Indian River County Sheriff's Office said. No date has been set for the program's airing, and one may not be announced for several months, producers said.

The London-based production company produces programs for A&E, Discovery, National Geography and other cable channels. Raw TV produces shows such as "Breakout" and "Locked Up Abroad" on National Geographic, Discovery's "Deadly Seas," "Fugitive Chronicles" on A&E and "Paranormal Witness" on Syfy.

Reed and Taylor sawed through some bars in their cell room to access the air-conditioning duct and knocked out the shaft, the Sheriff's Office said. The men squeezed through an 18-inch wide duct and used the bars they had removed to knock off the door knob in the maintenance area. They climbed the interior fence and dug underneath the exterior one as they fled.

Raw TV's film crew will interview Sheriff's Detectives Steve Stoll and Milo Thornton, who were involved in investigating the escape and finding Reed in Ohio, where he crashed a stolen vehicle five days after the breakout. Stoll also investigated the murder of Sebastian businessman James Malone, who Reed pleaded guilty to shooting.

Taylor was found in Martin County on the day of the escape.

The crew Saturday also will visit locations Reed went while on the run, including the Sebastian Auto Parts and Repair in the 900 block of U.S. 1 in Sebastian and an abandoned home a few blocks north. When Reed failed to hot-wire a car at the auto shop, he hid in the home at least one night, the Sheriff's Office said.

The crew will film at the Sheriff's Office Tuesday through Thursday.

This isn't the first escape from the jail to be featured on television. Investigation Discovery featured the 2005 escape by three inmates on the series "I (Almost) Got Away With It" a few years ago. The program interviews convicts about various capers. The escapees' episode was titled "Got Caught By Email."
