NDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. - Larry Charles is fuming about the mere thought of a possible gas tax hike.

"I am totally against them. Raising the price on gas and taxing is more insane," he said.

"We have turned it down over and over again, but you leave it there for long-range planning," said Gary Wheeler, the vice chairman of the Indian River County Commission.

Wheeler says there is no need to fret. Last week, commissioners voted to approve pushing back talk of an increase all the way until the 2014 budget year.

If it did ever become a reality, it would give the county another 4.2 million dollars for roads and development, adding 6 cents on each gallon of gas.

"I'm glad not today, but people who don't even drive have to worry about it," said Charles.

County commissioners say they've been fine without the increase in tax and believe that will be the case down the road.
