VERO BEACH, Fla. - County officials say more than $12 million dollars worth of damage has been done to local beaches.

Although much sand has been washed away, coastal engineers say some of it will be replenished naturally, over time.

Tracking Station Park has been shut down, after sustaining the worst structural damage in the county, estimated around $25,000.

Three boardwalks have been damaged, as well as the lifeguard station, at that park.

On Friday, all Indian river county beaches were shut down because of Sandy, and now the area is waiting on an emergency order from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

That would authorize local governments to issue permits for minor dune restorations projects.
