INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. - A man is being treated at a hospital after he fell into a septic tank while working Saturday morning.
Chief Brian Burkeen with Indian River County Fire Rescue confirms the man was an employee of a septic tank pumping company.
Burkeen says when the man went to open the tank to offload the septic waste, he had some sort of medical condition and fell inside.
People nearby kept his head above water until he could be removed from the tank, says Burkeen.
By the time Indian River County Fire Rescue arrived, he was awake and talking. Emergency responders performed a gross decontamination on scene, says Burkeen.
The man was transported to Indian River Medical Center for follow-up treatment.
