VERO BEACH -- Citing an impending murder case, Circuit Judge Robert Pegg canceled Kaitlyn Hunt's hearing and trial dates.
He did not set new dates.
Hunt, 18, is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious behavior with a 14-year-old girl, when the two were students in Sebastian River High School.
The teen sex case, which grabbed national attention after Hunt's father posted a petition on change.org asking to help stop his daughter's prosecution, had been slated for a jury trial Sept. 9.
The petition has more than 300,000 signatures.
Thursday's decision eases Hunt's attorney, Julia Graves, who was surprised by Pegg's announcement during Hunt's routine pre-trial court appearance on Thursday in Circuit Court in Indian River County.
Graves said she was prepared to ask the judge for a postponement so that she could have more time to prepare for the trial.

Hunt was in the courtroom with her parents and attorney for the announcement.
Members of a Kaitlyn Hunt support group, Free Kate, were gathered outside the courtroom.
The murder trial Pegg cited is the sentencing phase of the Daniel Duffy trial.
Duffy, 36, who owned homes in Brevard and Indian River counties, was found guilty Tuesday of first-degree murder for hiring hit men to kill John Torres, 45, of Sebastian, because he believed Torres owed him money and was cooperating with federal investigators.
The jury will return to Pegg’s courtroom on Sept. 9 to determine whether to recommend the death penalty or life in prison.
