More Treasure Coast students stayed in school and graduated this year, following a state trend of higher graduation rates, according to rates released Friday evening by the Florida Department of Education.
All three Treasure Coast districts increased their graduation rates. Indian River went from 71.7 percent in 2011 to 80.9 percent in 2012. Martin went from 82.4 percent to 84.9 percent. St. Lucie went from 65.4 percent to 70.6 percent.
The state’s graduation rate increased about 4 percentage points, going from 70.6 percent in 2011 to 74.5 percent this year. The rate, based on federal guidelines, calculates the percentage of students who graduated with a standard diploma within four years of entering ninth grade. The rate does not include students who earned a special diploma, a general educational development diploma or who failed the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test.
Graduation and dropout rates are the final component to the state’s calculation of high school grades, which have not yet been released. High school grades also are based on FCAT scores, ACT and SAT scores and advanced coursework.
The following is a district and school list of the 2010-2011 graduation rates, followed by the 2011-2012 rates:
Indian River County
Vero Beach High School: 71.15 percent; 80.25 percent
Sebastian River High School: 76.81 percent; 84.52 percent
Indian River Charter High School: 87.86 percent; 89.93 percent
Martin County
Martin County High School: 80.04 percent; 86.21 percent
South Fork High School: 87.53 percent; 86.58 percent
Jensen Beach High School: 90.39 percent; 89.23 percent
Clark Advanced Learning Center: 97.4 percent; 97.44 percent
St. Lucie County
Lincoln Park Academy: 94.14 percent; 95 percent
Fort Pierce Central: 61.88 percent; 75.13 percent
Fort Pierce Westwood: 55.77 percent; 66.9 percent
Port St. Lucie High School: 67.92 percent; 75.38 percent
St. Lucie West Centennial: 72.6 percent; 78.19 percent
Treasure Coast High School: 76.96 percent; 79.92 percent
