SEWALL'S POINT, Fla. - It wasn't quite the birthday present a Sewall's Point man was hoping for.
Fire crews were called out overnight after Don Doyle's 29-foot boat burst into flames on the Indian River. Doyle said police came banging on his door around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning.
"And it was this back door and I didn't even see the boat," recalled Doyle. "It was a ball of flame 12-14 feet tall."
Firefighters had to drag about a thousand feet of hose out to the boat. No one was hurt and the cause is still under investigation. Doyle, a life long boater, turned 75 on Tuesday. Despite what happened, Doyle isn't sure a new boat is on his birthday wish list.
