PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. -- An early morning accident is under investigation at one of Florida Power & Light's newest power plants in South Florida.

According to FPL spokesperson Richard Gibbs, a male contractor was injured overnight inside the utility's West County Energy Center, located along State Road 80 west of Loxahatchee Groves.

According to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue's battalion chief, the man fell 10 to 15 feet.

Rescue crews arrived at the scene shortly after 3 a.m. and called for the Trauma Hawk to transport the victim to St. Mary's Medical Center.

A special operations team was required to maneuver between pipes to safely remove the patient from the location of this incident, officials said.

The worker's name and condition have not yet been released, however officials said say he was talking and alert when he left for treatment.
