WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- An alligator was spotted by a WPTV NewsChannel 5 crew early this morning.

It was captured on video as motorists stopped to look at it and take photos around 3:20 a.m.

The gator was walking along Australian Avenue just before Congress Avenue near the airport.

It is estimated the gator was about six feet long from nose to tail.

WPTV's photojournalist and reporter team dialed 911 to tell authorities about the animal, so it could be safely escorted from the roadway, out of harm's way and out of the flow of traffic.
