WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A West Palm Beach woman was charged with shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia Sunday after city police alleged that she stole more than $300 worth of shoes.
Theresa Hart, 47, was arrested after police said that she stole four pairs of shoes from the Sports Authority store on Okeechobee Boulevard. According to a probable cause affidavit, an unidentified man walked into the women's shoe department and removed four boxes from the shelves.
The boxes contained four pairs of Nike shoes valued at $342.
The man cut the sensor tags, and a woman, later identified as Hart, entered the shoe department and gathered the boxes. She ran out of the store without attempting to pay for the shoes, the affidavit stated.
A store security officer approached Hart outside while a man waited in a nearby vehicle. The security officer detained Hart when a man tried to pull the officer away from Hart.
Hart was detained while the other suspects fled.
While being questioned before a police search, Hart stated that she had paraphernalia in her possession.
She then removed two crack pipes out of her buttocks, the affidavit stated.
She told police that she took the shoes to support her drug habit.
