WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Five people were shot Wednesday night in three separate incidents in West Palm Beach, according to police spokesperson Allan Ortman.
A woman enjoying the holiday on a boat with her family was shot in the leg by a stray bullet. Police are still investigating where exactly this occurred on the water. She is expected to be alright.
A 40-year-old woman was shot in the chest by a stray bullet while enjoying the Fourth of July celebrations with her family at Coleman Park, Ortman said.
Three teenagers were shot an hour later about a mile away.
City police and fire rescue teams responded to reports of a shooting on 21st Street shortly after 10 p.m.
When crews arrived, the woman was suffering from a gunshot wound to her chest. Investigators on scene learned the woman was with her family when she was hit by a stray bullet, Ortman said.
She was rushed to the Trauma Center at St. Mary’s Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery, Ortman said.
At about 11 o'clock three teenagers were shot about two blocks from Coleman Park.
Police responded to reports of a shooting near Cheerful Street and Spruce Avenue after 11 p.m. When they arrived, they found three teen boys with gunshot wounds to their legs, Ortman said.
None of the teens suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Ortman.
Ortman tells NewsChannel 5 that the three boys were shooting off fireworks when two other teenagers sneaked up behind them and began firing their guns. Police are now searching for the two armed teens.
