WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A West Palm Beach woman told police that Chewbacca was involved in a shooting last week.
Chewbacca's alleged partners in crime, two men who were not dressed as Wookiees or Ewoks, were subsequently arrested. The men, both of West Palm Beach, are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
West Palm Beach Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of 11th Street to reports of a shooting on Nov. 30. They later learned from the woman who witnessed the shooting that a man wearing a Chewbacca mask, along with 19-year-old Jodeci Lamar Window and 21-year-old Mario D. Johnson, had driven up to the home and began firing.
Just like in the Star Wars movies, Chewbacca played the role of sidekick in the West Palm Beach shooting, while sitting in the front passenger seat of the car. The woman identified Window as the driver and Johnson as the backseat passenger, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The woman, whose name is withheld in the affidavit, said that she asked Window to not shoot.
Despite her plea, Chewbacca fired shots from a handgun over the roof of the vehicle in her direction, the woman told police. Then, Johnson, who was in the backseat of the car, began shooting along with Window.
The three men drove off when a man known as "Saint" shot at their car, the woman added. Window was arrested on Saturday and Johnson on Tuesday.
An anonymous witness to the incident said that a neighborhood gang is seeking retaliation for a drug rip off, according to the affidavit. The witness said that the gang believes Kyle Roney was responsible for the theft, the affidavit states.
Roney was sitting in front of the home with the woman when the three men drove up. He was "extremely uncooperative" with police, and told officers that he did not "know anything about anything,"
Though the woman was able to pick out Window and Johnson from a photo line-up, the affidavit does not elaborate on Chewbacca's possible identity.
