WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A trip to Oktoberfest this weekend ended badly for a 14-year-old boy and ended in the arrest of an 18-year-old man.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, William Ryan Jr. was given permission by the mother of the 14-year-old to take her son to the annual festival in Lantana held on Friday night.
Deputies said that early Saturday morning an off-duty Broward County deputy found the juvenile lying in the grass at Banyan and Keylime boulevards in Loxahatchee.
The deputy told investigators that the 14-year-old appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and was also beat up.
The teen told deputies that he was taken to a park in Loxahatchee and then given alcohol in Ryan's presence and later attacked while Ryan was there.
PBSO says that Ryan gave the 14-year-old boy alcohol and then did nothing to aid him once he was attacked.
The sheriff's office arrested Ryan and charged him with neglect of a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
