WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A man riding a bicycle was shot near 48th Street and Broadway in West Palm Beach Friday afternoon.
Police say the shooter was in a vehicle and fled the scene. They don't have a description of the vehicle or shooter. However, police are sifting through surveillance video from nearby businesses.
The shooting happened around 2:15 p.m.
Broadway was shut down between 47th and 49th Street for about 90 minutes, but has since reopened.
The victim has been transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. Police say he is conscious and has been speaking with investigators.
Rudy Hernandez, who heard the shots, said crime in the neighborhood happens too often. "It doesn't surprise us, we've been robbed. Kentucky Fried Chicken's been robbed, so unfortunately it's a tough little neighborhood."
West Palm Beach Police Captain David Bernhardt added, "It's tough to control when something of passion is going to take place. You know, people are always saying 'how can you prevent a shooting?' Or 'how can you prevent some type of violent crime?' Sometimes there's no way to prevent it."
Local law enforcement is looking for a yellow taxi cab in connection with the shooting.
