WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The West Palm Beach officer who was shot on Monday night has been identified.

Officer Rade Momirovich, a five-year veteran with the West Palm Beach Police Department, was released from the hospital Tuesday morning, according to West Palm Beach police spokesman Allan Ortman.

At approximately 10 p.m., officers responded to a call regarding a 22- year-old male shot at the Citgo gas station at the corner of Haverhill Road and 45th Street.  The 22-year-old has been identified as Zayveon Johnson.

Police followed the suspected gunman to Springbrook Commons, a nearby apartment complex. When police arrived, they encountered gunfire, Ortman said.

The suspect and officers fired at each other, with bullets striking the windows of a police cruiser and other vehicles.

According to Ortman, Officers Momirovich and Covelle Padgette were fired upon several times by a male suspect dressed in all black.

Momirovich and Padgett returned fire striking the gunman several times, said Ortman.

Police say various witnesses identified the suspect as the aggressor. He was identified as 27-year-old Marcus Neloms.

Officer Momirovich suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder during the incident.

Officer Padgett suffered no injuries.  Neloms succumbed to his injuries on scene.
