A man is in custody, another remains on the loose after West Palm Beach police said the pair attempted to burglarize a house while a resident was inside.
Police said they believe the alleged burglars left empty handed all thanks to the quick actions of a neighbor.
The situation unfolded Friday just before 10:00 a.m. near 39th Street and Australian Avenue.
Police said the one suspected burglar, who remains on the loose, and Jerrick Timmons, 28, broke into a home and tried to steal thousands of dollars in electronics. Police say it happened while the resident of the home was upstairs getting dressed.
"I feel very fortunate that I'm alive that they didn't have guns. I mean he could have had a gun I don't know," said the victim whose identity is being withheld to protect her.
The victim said she was getting dressed when she heard the home alarm start ringing.
When she went downstairs to see what was going on, she allegedly caught the two suspected burglars in the act.
"I need to get out of here and call the police. I need to get out of here fast. The fact that he was walking and has his back to me, he didn't even know I was even in the house," said the victim.
Police say the victim ran from her home to a nearby neighbor's home who had heard the commotion and dialed 911.
Investigators said had the neighbor not alerted the police so quickly, the situation could have escalated.
"I care about my neighbors and I care about my neighborhood and I would want someone to reciprocate that same thing for me. So I just reacted," said Adrienne Hart, who dialed 911.
Hart said she was just thinking about the safety of her neighbor when she acted.
"If Adrienne hadn't been home, I don't know what I would have done," said the victim.
Police arrived moments later and eventually managed to return most of the electronics reported stolen.
The victim said she is happy to have her items back, but she said it is just stuff.
She said it is what her neighbor did for her on Friday that she will hold onto and cherish.
Police said one of the suspects is still on the loose. The other alleged burglar was initially taken to the hospital after being 'Tased.'
Anyone with any information should call the West Palm Beach Police Department.
