West Palm Beach —Joshua Goodfellow, a lieutenant for the city’s fire department who was arrested and Tasered by police in April and then arrested again last week for allegedly driving under the influence, has resigned from the department.
City spokesman Elliot Cohen said Monday that Goodfellow has resigned effective immediately. Reached by telephone on Monday, Goodfellow declined to comment.
He had been placed on paid leave after the first incident.
In April, Goodfellow, 34, was wrestled to the ground by an employee at Samantha’s Restaurant in Jupiter after Goodfellow allegedly came into the restaurant looking for his wife, who was with a friend, and shouted obscenities at her before lunging at the employee, according to a police report.
Goodfellow left the restaurant and the doors were locked. But police officer Danielle Hirsch then found him banging on the glass door “with such force, that I thought he was going to break it,” according to the report. She Tasered him three times.
Last week, Goodfellow was arrested on a DUI charge. His blood alcohol came back .245 and .254 in two breath tests, police said, more than three times the legal limit. An officer said he had offered to arrange a ride for Goodfellow from a Jupiter bar, but Goodfellow said he was getting a ride from his wife. As Goodfellow as he drove off the officer followed him and saw him run two stop signs. Goodfellow attempted to flee by foot after he was pulled over, police said.
Last year Goodfellow was suspended for 12 hours without pay, for taking four photos with his cell phone of a 21-year-old woman who committed suicide by stabbing herself in the stomach. Goodfellow said he took the photos for training purposes.
He received written letters of reprimand in 2007 and 2008, for being negligent with city property and issues about his response to a fire alarm.
