PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. - For the first time ever the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office has opened the doors to its high security fusion center.

The Palm Beach Regional Fusion Center works to deter, detect and prevent terrorists’ acts as well as prepare for, and respond to, natural or man-made disasters.

There are only 73 others like it in the country.

It's operated in conjunction with other public agencies including Emergency Management, the Health Department, Fire Rescue and the Department of Transportation.

"It is important for the citizens of Palm Beach County to know that the agency is on the cutting-edge of technology, on the cutting-edge of the homeland security effort, and that's why we're considered a lead agency in this particular aspect," said Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.

Other resources at the facility include cameras, a radar system, helicopter downlink and facial recognition.
