Two hospitalized after attack by two dogs in suburban West Palm Beach neighborhood

SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Two people are recovering from their injuries after the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says they were attacked by two dogs at 6 a.m. Wednesday.

One of the dogs was later shot by a deputy who felt it was aggressive.

It happened on Collin Drive near Summit Boulevard and Kirk Road in suburban West Palm Beach.

Deputies say a woman was walking down a sidewalk on her way to work when she was attacked by two dogs.  When a man came to her aid, he too was attacked.

Law enforcement officers arrived on scene, and PBSO deputies say that as they pursued the dogs, the animals attacked two cats, killing one of them.  They followed the dogs to their owners' house.  There, deputies say the dogs became aggressive and a deputy shot one dog.

Deputies and owners of the dogs describe them as mixed-breed that are part pit bull.  The owners say the dogs had been missing since Monday evening.

Farida Ramcharran was the first victim who was bitten.  She said, "I do love animals, but I don't know why these two attacked me, one of them attacked me this morning."

Ramcharran said she had never seen the dogs, nor had she approached the animals when they attacked her.  
The owners of the dogs say were shocked and traumatized that their pet was shot in their driveway.

Carmen Sanabria, explained, "No, they are not aggressive, we have kids, they grew up around kids, they are always inside, they sleep inside, they eat inside, I feed them, I take their food away, they don't bite."

Animal Care and Control says the dogs are being quarantined pending rabies tests.  The injured dog is receiving care at a local veterinarian's office.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
