Two women were killed and at least two other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday evening in suburban West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue said.

The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. in the 7400 block of Belvedere Road, just west of Florida's Turnpike and northeast of the South Florida Fairgrounds.

The women were riding in a gray Nissan sedan traveling north on Pike Road. It collided with a red Honda SUV traveling east on Belvedere at the intersection of the two roads, said Lt. Michael Reardon of the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office's traffic division.

The names and ages of the women were not immediately known, Reardon said.

Two people riding in the Honda were taken by ambulance to Wellington Regional Medical Center, Reardon said. Their conditions were not immediately available. It was unclear if the two people were the only passengers in the Honda.

As of 11 p.m. on Tuesday, sheriff's deputies still had blocked off Belvedere Road in both directions near the intersection of Pike Road while they investigated the accident. Motorists should seek alternate routes.
