Tri-Rail train hits unoccupied vehicle in Delray Beach

A tri-rail train stops near Sample Road and the CXS crossing, as the Broward Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a man on a bicycle who was hit by the Tri-Rail train near West Sample Road in Deerfield Beach.

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - A northbound Tri-Rail train hit an unoccupied vehicle that was sitting on the CSX tracks near Linton Boulevard and South Congress Avenue in Delray Beach, said Capt. Curtis Jepsen, spokesman for Delray Beach Fire Rescue.

No one was injured in the accident, which happened shortly before 7 p.m..

The Tri-Rail passengers were taken off the train and the empty vehicle was towed by police, Jepsen said.

Delray PD is investigating the accident.
